Additional Admission Criteria
Supplementary Application Form (SAF) required.
An SAF helps us get to know you better. What is your story? We welcome students with varied lived experiences and whose activities demonstrate learning and/or leadership potential beyond their academic records. The SAF is a space for you to tell us about your life, interests, and goals for attending U of T Scarborough. We are looking for engaged students of any background who will bring leadership, passion, and diverse perspectives.
At the University of Toronto Scarborough, we welcome students with varied lived experiences and whose activities demonstrate learning and/or leadership potential beyond their academic records. We believe strongly that every applicant should be given an equitable opportunity to join our learning community. Please fill out the SAF to the best of your ability so we can get to know more about who you are and what you have learned from your experiences (rather than simply listing how many extracurricular activities you have participated in). Your responses will be read by university staff with a diverse set of backgrounds and an anti-discriminatory lens.
Language Requirements
General Requirements
If English is not your first language (i.e., is not the first language you learned at home as a child), you will need to provide evidence of adequate English facility for admission consideration, unless you qualify for an exemption.
The minimum number of years required to waive requirements is 4 years of satisfactory, full-time study in an English-language school system in a country where English is the dominant language. If an English facility test is required, you will be exempt from also having to include a 4U English (ENG4U/EAE4U) in your admission average, provided that 6 other acceptable 4U credits are presented.
Discretionary Range
If your test result falls into the following discretionary ranges, it will be reviewed automatically. You will be notified if your discretionary range score satisfies the English-language requirement. As we cannot guarantee that the score will be accepted, it is recommended that you arrange to take another test if the official results can be submitted to us by the appropriate document deadline.
U of T Scarborough offers Academic English (AE) @ UTSC to students who are admitted to U of T Scarborough and require additional English-language skills training. Completing the extra-cost AE@UTSC program in the summer may be a condition of an offer of admission.
The program is led by instructors from the renowned University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies. AE@UTSC is specifically designed to target the development of communication, research and study skills. The skills acquired will lead you toward greater success in your studies.
French as a First Language
If French is your first language and you achieved satisfactory academic progress in at least 4 years of full-time study in Canada, you are not required to provide proof of English facility.
