Language Requirements
If English is not your first language, you must demonstrate that you can cope with the language demands of an English-language university.
If you apply to an undergraduate program at Lakehead University, you may meet our English-language requirements if you successfully completed, or are in the process of completing, 3 full years of recent study in an English-language school system.
If English is not your native language, and you cannot verify that you recently studied in an English-language school system for more than 3 full years of full-time study, you will be required to present proof of English-language proficiency.
Lakehead University accepts the following as proof of English-language proficiency:
- Successful completion of a recognized language test (e.g., CAEL, Cambridge, IELTS, Pearson, and TOEFL) with the required minimum scores.
- Successful completion of Lakehead University’s Academic English Program (AEP).
- Successful completion of one of our approved Pathway Partner’s ESL programs.
- Completion of Senior Level English Courses.
Some programs (e.g., Bachelor of Science in Nursing) may require a higher score on a recognized language test than the minimums listed. Completing our AEP is not an option for these programs. Refer to our for more information.
